We’ve recently welcomed Beer Fisheries to our wholesale marketplace, a family run fishmongers managed by 4th generation owners Mark and Leanne Newton in Beer, East Devon.
The shop is supplied with freshly caught fish and shellfish by Mark’s father Jim Newton, as well as other local fishermen, all working within the Lyme Bay Reserve – a conservation area where fishing is permitted providing it causes no damage to the seabed or to nature conservation in the area. The Reserve is committed to ‘implementing best practice in managing fish and shellfish stocks’ as part of their work to ‘maintain a healthy, productive and sustainable Marine Reserve’.
Fresh, local and sustainable fish and shellfish is now available from Beer Fisheries each week (weather permitting), and is delivered in retail packaging ready for sale or use.
Jim and Mark recently featured in the short documentary ‘The Last Custodians‘, which looks at the work, and future, of members of the Lyme Bay Fisherman’s CIC.
